OK... here is the fresh hijackthis log... one thing though, not sure if it is super important; i forgot to close my internet explorer when i did the fix. after the fact, i closed all windows and ran the scan again but those particular selections were no longer there. i rebooted and checked again and they were still not there. here is the log from the last scan after the reboot...

JusticeforAll,

No big deal about not closing IE. We ask that you close IE when fixing, to prevent reinfection, but since there was no real spyware on the system during that last fix everything is OK. The things we deleted were just cleaning up some files.

Are you noticing any problems on your system?

Make sure you can right click the desktop, and open the properties menu.
Make sure that you can create new folders on your desktop.
Make sure that you can create shortcuts on your desktop, as well as delete them.

Let me know if you can do all of the above.

Assuming you can do all of the above, you can delete your C:\Spywad folder. If you can not do one or more of the above, please hold off on deleteing the folder.

Open up Windows explorer and look for C:\Spywad, and then delete the folder.

If all goes well, I will post spyware prevention tips for you tomorrow once I hear back from you.

hi Justin... i still can't right click on the desktop and get the properties menu, create files/shortcuts directly from the desktop, or delete icons/files from the desktop. after my initial excitement from erasing "desktop.html" it appears the only thing fixed was the ability to drag icons. hope you'all can still help...

Justice,

Found another infection that could be causing your dekstop issues,

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Justin,

i want to make sure i get this one right. i clicked on the site you provided and it gave me the option to save the program to my desktop... i did so. then i followed your directions by double clicking l2mfix.exe and installed (extracted) the files.

when i opened the newly created file it gave me 14 different icons (programs) to chose from. the only one that seemed correct was "l2mfix" (without the .exe). when i clicked on that it said "a subdirectory or file backregs arlready exists." then it gives a "use at your own risk" warning, various websites for help, and then says "press any key to continue".

i decided to check with you since it didn't give me the option to select #1 (run find log)... just want to make sure i'm not running the wrong program... thanks

Justice,

In the l2mfix folder,

Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

Do not run scan number 2, or run any other files.

Scan number 1 just gives me a log to see if you have the infection.

Justin,

in the l2mfix folder, of the 14 choices, the closest thing to l2mfix.bat is "l2mfix" (no .bat). also, when i click on that choice... it only gives me the option to "press any button to continue". should i press that, and see if it gives me the option #1 selection?

Justice,

I dont think this is a l2m infection anyways, I was just doing it as a precaution. Let me ask around and see if I can find another desktop fix.

l2m fix is for people who complain about getting certain sites when trying to get to google or another normal site.

I still think you have some hijacked desktop left over, and that is why you cant do anything on your desktop, and thats why you cant use deldomains.

Can you post a new HiJackThis log for me?

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\msjava.dll
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Sun Java Console - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\msjava.dll
O9 - Extra button: Microsoft AntiSpyware helper - {1B16AE9F-9084-4B4C-A4BF-D85179035C63} - (no file)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Microsoft AntiSpyware helper - {1B16AE9F-9084-4B4C-A4BF-D85179035C63} - (no file)

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis

Post a new hijackthis log for me to look at, and try to do things on your desktop, like create/delete shortcuts, access the properties menu ect.

Meanwhile ill look for more Desktop fixes.
