First off, I do not believe this is an malware issue. I have up to date McAfee, and scan with Spybot and Adaware weekly. Here is the problem.

When playing chess on yahoo, (a yahoo java game), iexplore will run upto 99% of the CPU, effectively stopping everything on the computer. It will vary between 25 and 99%. This is the only website where I have problems. Also, it will be a problem for several weeks, then just disappear for several months. iexplore will still show in the task manager, but at normal levels of CPU usage.

I have all the updates on XP, Explorer and Java. I've tried dumping the Java temporary files, but nothing seems to help. I just can't play chess for a few weeks at a time.

If no one can help, my next step would be to down load and use either chrome or firefox. Though I don't have any other problems with IE and would prefer just to keep using it.

Also, about once a year or so, I completely reformat the drives, just to get a fresh start.

Thanks for any help/input.
