Strange Hard Drive Problem?

I've had some problems with my computer freezing up recently. Strangely, I managed to fix this by connecting a second hard drive. What does this mean exactly? I confirmed that it is indeed THIS action that fixed it. I find it weird how a second hard drive that is doing essentially nothing is able to do that...
