Please help! My laptop is bogging down, takes 45 minutes to boot up and all programs are taking approximately 3+ minutes to load after selecting. I have 57% free space and have checked Malwarebytes, Spybot and antivirus - all came back clean. I have just run a HijackThia! log and am attaching to this post.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Alliea

Please, post some computer info:
- processor type, amount of RAM (hold Windows logo key, hit Pause/Break key)
- hard drive size/free space (open "My Computer", right click on hard drive letter, click "Properties")
- security programs in use (antivirus, firewall)

Download Autoruns for Windows: http://technet.micro...s/bb963902.aspx
No installation required.
Simply unzip Autoruns.zip file, and double click on autoruns.exe file to run the program.
Go File>Save, and save it as AutoRuns.txt file to know location.
You must select Text from drop-down menu as a file type:

Attach the file to your next reply.

256MB of RAM is your main obstacle.
XP would like to have at least 512MB of RAM (1GB preferable)

We can knock some unneeded startups down, but it'll help just a little bit.

Re-run Autoruns, click on "Logon" tab and UN-check following items:

+ "Adobe ARM"
+ "Adobe Photo Downloader"
+ "Adobe Reader Speed Launcher"
+ "iTunesHelper"
+ "KernelFaultCheck"
+ "SunJavaUpdateSched"
+ "Microsoft Office.lnk"
+ "Skype"
+ "FlashPlayerUpdate"

With you amount of RAM, I'd also uninstall Spybot. It definitely hogs your computer and it's also kind of tool of the past.

Restart computer.

Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.

Run defrag.

Hey thank you for that information! I tried to uncheck the items you listed above and it just came back as error changing state: access denied ???? What can I do now? Your information is greatly appreciated because I have a tendency to be computer illeterit. I have an HP AMD Sempron, I have Windows Vista Basic. My laptop came with a whole lot of programs!! Now I wonder if one of my issues with this laptop being so slow could be due to the games I like to play on facebook. I play Frontierville - which isn't working right now and Farmville and a new hospital game. I would still like to play Frontierville but if I can't have those games on here, I will be happy to dump them. I notice I have a ton of autorun programs. I will go back there and see if I can list them for you. Thank you, always, eyeneedhlp
