I got them to send me an XP disc, probably not the same one they originally used to install XP on this computer. Popped it in and ran a repair as described in this article: http://www.ehow.com/...eboot-loop.html
That didn't solve it so then I tried the repair as described in this article: http://www.michaelst...pairinstall.htm
Windows told me it had completed the repair, to remove the disc, which I did. Of course I had to go back into BIOS and set the computer to boot from hard drive instead of CD/DVD and then tried to fire it up. The windows XP load screen appeared, then a blue windows XP installation screen appeared with an error telling me that installation could not be completed, insert the CD back into the media drive and complete installation. Approx time for install was 39 minutes. That sounded, to me, like it was going to format my hard drive and reinstall XP which I want to avoid if at all possible! So I canceled and exited.
Anyone got any advice on how I can repair my existing copy of windows without completely formatting and re-installing windows?
