Dell DVD Player

Im SO not computer a computer wiz... let me start off with that. I have a Dell Vostro 1510 that has a built in DVD player, Every time I go to put a DVD in the slot it will not bring up the icon to play the Dvd. I press the play button on the keyboard and still nothing, I go to the start menu and I cant even get the POWER dvd Dx program to come up. Like I said Im a new college student who would be very greatful if anyone could help me out with this.....
