Please Help!
I started my computer the other day and it came up with these errors:

"sidebar.exe - bad image"
windows/system32/sfc.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains and error. Try installing the program again using original installation media or contact your system admin.

I click o.k. then it says:

"Acrotray.exe - bad image"
windows/system32/sfc.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains and error. Try installing the program again using original installation media or contact your system admin.

I click o.k. and then it says:

"hpqtra08.exe - bad image"
windows/system32/sfc.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains and error. Try installing the program again using original installation media or contact your system admin.

after that I receive an error report saying that windows sidebar has stopped working.

My computer is EXTREMELY slow in any commands I give it.
I also tried to run the sfc (system file checker command) and it acts like it is going to start to run the program but then just closes out.

Then I went through these steps:

Step 1: I was able to boot in safe mode and the exe. bad image pop-ups don't happen.

Step 2: I uninstalled a couple of things that have recently been installed...even if they were installed a couple of weeks ago.

Step 3: Did a system restore to before the problem started happening.

Where I stand now is that when I start up in regular mode the computer still shows the exe. bad image messages and the computer consistently gags when I try to open anything. It eventually opens the file but it may take 5-10 minutes.
Also, I realized that my computer can't recognize any of the printers that I previously had installed. Then it says something about the print spooler service not running.

I went to the onecare live website and tried to download the cleanup scan. I seems as though it was downloading but then never prompted me to start the scan.

Do you have any idea what's going on with my computer and what I can do to resolve this problem?

Thank you so much!

I suggest that you start a new topic in the Malware Removal and Spyware Removal area.

Before you start a new topic click on this link --> Malware and Spyware Cleaning Guide, Please read before starting a new topic. This will give you a few preparations to make, as well as instruction for posting your OTListIt2 log.

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).

Please, don't post any logs here.

I ended up posting this as a new topic in the malware/spyware removal area, but got no response

Please go to the malware forum and follow the instructions at the top....Especially the CLICK HERE.

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty--and you may not be-- then post an OTListIt log in THAT forum.

Actually, there is an open topic in malware with the same title as this one...and it has no responses. It's pretty old, but it's there. Let's not be so quick to jump to conclusions. :)

deacon829...

I'm going to close your old Malware topic (the old one I linked to)...please start a new topic there with fresh logs. We'll try not to let this one slip through the cracks...

Sorry to all.

I just noticed in your links that mpascal did respond to me with some feedback but I never got an e-mail notification. I will refer to his information and get back to you with results.
I know that you all are here to help and I'm sorry if I upset anyone.

Thanks

No one's upset, deacon829...just looked like a good place to remind the staff to mind their manners.

Good luck with your topic in Malware. :)
