Need help for sight impaired

I don't know if this is the right forum but I'll try. My brother has recently become legally blind. He can read text only if it's size 36 or bigger. And emails he can't read. What would be great would be a progam or add-on that will say outloud the contents of an email. The problem with some programs I've tried is you have to hightlight first what you want to read and he can't do that. And if he manages to type a letter he can't proofread it to correct the mistakes which will be many. Anyone have knowlege that would help?
