Right so i'm playing my favorite game and then all of a sudden after about 30 mins of playing the screen goes all pixelated and lines go across the screen.

This happens with every game I seem to play.
(excluding flash games)

Then Blue Screen pops up, and it restarts.
It's a 1 month old sony vaio..

GPU Nvidia 230M

I've tried updating the drivers, didn't solve it.
Tried a hardware check, said it was fine.

Any ideas Genius's? :)

Mattttt, welcome to Geekstogo!

If this is only happening when you are playing games and not any other time... it sounds like it is a faulty video card. Considering your laptop is only a month old, I would contact Sony or whoever you bought if from to have it repaired or replaced.

Since that card is fairly new, contacting Nvidia to see if there are any known issues may be a good idea as well. There may be a solution.

Download BlueScreenView
No installation required.
Double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.
When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.
Go File>Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

Thanks to Broni for the instructions and program

Well that tells us something. dxgkrnl.sys is definitely causing the BSOD's. After some research this seems to be a problem with a conflict between the Nvidia driver and MS DirectX. Are you running the latest DirectX for your system?

Install PC Wizard:
  • Click PC Wizard in my signature
  • Click PC Wizard 2010.1.93 on the top left
  • Save the file to your Desktop
  • Double Click the setup file
  • Follow installation instructions
  • Once installed, open PC Wizard up
  • Click System Summary Posted Image (Should be highlighted by default)
What version of DirectX do you have?

If you have anything less than DirectX 11, then you can go HERE and download the latest DirectX for your computer.

If that doesn't solve your problem, there is a fix from Microsoft that seems to relate to this issue. Try this KB953026 I would check the DX first, update it if necessary. If that does not solve your problem, then try the MS KB953026 fix.

Let me know how things go. :)

Thanks for that.

Im on Direct X 11

And that MS fix is for vista, i'm running windows 7. Will it be compatible with my OS?

Anyways, i contacted sony and they said it was a hardware failure so they're repairing it.

Thanks for your help :)
