I have a laptop 299mhz processor with 96.0 mb ram. xp pro is installed but does not work properly for reasons i now know, but, when i use fdisk to delete the ntfs partition and then create primary dos partition and set active, it's not working.
So maybe I am doing something wrong.when I escape fdisk and switch off the power using the on/off switch ntfs remains. Is this wrong what I am doing and if it is can someone explain to me what to do properly.

putting xp on that machone is not possible

XP requires an absolute bare minimum of 128mb of ram--and while it loads with that, it does so just barely.

Hi gerryf

Are you trying to wipe the hd to complete a full reinstall, or are you trying to run a repair on your operating system.

Fdisk allows you to create partitions, set active paritions etc, usually tells you to reboot for the changes to take effect. After that you still have to format the partition, the hd is set for NTFS, deleting and recreating the partition will remain.

The command after is format c: /FS:fat, fat32, or ntfs.

Since Big Al rand fdisk, he wiped out the drive. Even though Big Al formatted, all he has now is a blank drive that is set to active.

Does Big Al have a windows 98 disk?

Run fdisk again from flopp, Delete NON-fat partition

reboot,

run fdisk again, create one single fat partition,

format it fat32

install windows 98

http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

Not sure where you got the emergency disk, but perhaps it is not 100 percent functioning.

Download a win98se disk above and use that instead
