I have never installed this printer using a USB cable which is why I don't have one. It seems so weird now, that it is asking me to do so. In a bit, i am going to try again. These are the steps I am going to take. Uninstall the printer using the 4 phases, then uninstall From the " devices and printers" If it's still there, then the control panel. Restarting as needed. Then attempt the full reinstall again. After this, I have no idea what to do if it doesn't work. I don't want to have to go the USB route, #1 being I don't have one and I don't want to purchase one at this time. :smashcomp:

Did you see Wannabe1's suggestion about installing it as a network printer instead of a local printer?

It may just be that you are missing this highlighted in red - below

USB or parallel installation in Windows 98, Me, 2000, or XP versions 3.3, 3.4, and 3.5

Posted ImageNOTE: Do not connect the printer to the computer until prompted to do so. If the printer is already connected, uninstall and disconnect the printer.Installing the printer software using the downloaded files
  • Locate the SETUP.EXE file within the downloaded folder and double-click it. Default location for the download is C:\temp\Photosmart.
  • Click Install HP Photosmart printer series printer software .
  • Follow the onscreen instructions.
Installing the printer software using a CD-ROM
  • Insert the CD-ROM into the computer CD-ROM drive. If the CD-ROM drive does not automatically read the CD-ROM, start it manually by following the steps below:
    • Click Start .
    • Click Run .
    • Click Browse .
    • Locate and double-click the CD-ROM drive.
    • Double-click the setup.exe file and click OK .
  • Click Install HP Photosmart printer series printer software .
  • Follow the onscreen instructions.
HOWEVER that if it was the error will now require the start again from the stage shown. - eg. Uninstall, disconnect, and go from there.

PLEASE NOTE SEE MY POST 97 - Printer is I presume installed as wireless printer in Windows 7. If so CANCEL above

Yep I did, I will be sure that is what I do this time. I am pretty sure that's what I have been doing, but I will make sure this time. I can't thank you enough for taking the time with me on this.

OK let us know please.

By ensuring that the printer is NOT connected, until the HP software requests you to do so, you will or should have that driver working correctly

I have now successfully removed all HP software (I think) I am still getting this error message when I restart "windows cannot find" C:\Program files (x86)\HP\Digital Imaging\Bin\HPQTRA08.EXE I don't know if this is important or not. I have to run out for a few, I will take this back up when I get back.

Please see the red highlight at the end of my post 93 - edited since you replied.

I presume from what you said that the printer is installed as a wireless printer and that is why you are saying that you do not want to purchase the USB cable as these printers are often supplied without the USB cable.

The earlier post was my error as I did not notice that you came in on the topic and it is in the XP forum, albeit you are on Windows 7.

That is why my previous reply refers to XP

This was my mistake.

If I am correct here is what you now need to proceed.

on the HP Photosmart C6380

my good colleague rshaffer61 already of course having sent you the driver link., which is of course not just the driver but the full software for the ALL in one printer scanner copier etc. and will correct the above mentioned error report.

Well, I have good news and bad news. First the good. I was able to fully install the printer to my lap top I was having similar issues. Renaming the temp file did the trick. Hoo Ray! Now the bad, sort of, I have been unsuccessful installing the printer on my desk top (my primary machine) I am able to get through the whole process (which I haven't been able to do previously) When it gets to the part where it is searching for my printer, I get a big fat nothing. I reset my modem and router, I even uninstalled my wireless adapter, which caused more headaches than it should have and reinstalled it. With everything confirmed and up and running, I can print out from the printer the network settings page and it all checks out good. Connected and everything. So, once again, I am at a loss. :help:
