Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Download ETRemover and unzip it. Don't run it yet.

Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers.

Uninstall Web Offer from Add/Remove panel if listed there.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://searchmiracle.com/sp.php

O20 - Winlogon Notify: SideBySide - C:\WINDOWS\system32\irnml5511.dll

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\nsvsvc\
C:\WINDOWS\system32\picsvr\
C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\
C:\windows\system32\elitemld32.exe
halxreg.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\radioshack\Application Data\othb.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\Web Offer\
C:\WINDOWS\system32\irnml5511.dll

Right click on this folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\??mbols\ and go to Properties (the two ?? could be any symbol, so you may also want to do a search for it in the system32 folder if you can't locate it easily). When was it created? Now open up that folder and see what else is in there.

Run ETRemover.exe now.

Reboot into Normal Mode run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

;) Sorry for seeming so unknowlegeable.... ;)
I didn't know what "ETRemover.exe" is so i didnt run it.
The C:\WINDOWS\system32\symbols\ folder was created Friday, April 29, 2005, 1:23:06 PM and the only thing that was in it was "regedit"

There are still some popups... but nowhere near as many... and my computer's startup was faster... :tazz:

But here is my new hjl:Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1

My guess is that, that folder is not legitimate. Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\symbols and right click on that regedit.exe. Is it from Microsoft and when was it created?

ETRemover is the program I asked you to download earlier. Did you download that ETRemover_V123.zip file and unzip the content? I want you to run that in safe mode.

Do this:

Download L2MFix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts. Then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing Enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2MFix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

You still have HijackThis.exe in a temp folder. Move it out of there and put in a folder like C:\HJT\ instead. Also move the backup folder it created out of there now.

Your log is clean.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer and uncheck the same box to enable System Restore.

Make sure to get the latest updates for Windows and Internet Explorer at http://v5.windowsupd...t.aspx?ln=en-us.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.
