I wanna get a last little life out of my 333 Mhz Gateway laptop.
I have it packed with 98SE on there now. I want it to go a little faster by putting knoppix on it. I have read a few things about it but none of them really helped.

any replies would be great.

thanks all.

are you trying to download it from the livecd or an ISO image?

if you are using the LiveCD I would recommend downloading the ISO image, burning it to CD and then installing it.

And Where should i download the ISO?

I've googled it and it got me here:ftp://ftp.uni-kl.de/pub/linux/knoppix/ The file size is almost 710mb and takes pretty long to download. Could i get it from limewire or so?

thanks again.

the only p2p that i know of that you can get knoppix through is bittorrent. and thats the liveCD.

The differenc between the liveCD and the ISO is that the LiveCD alows you to run Knoppix from the CD. the ISO image gives you the installer. If i recall correctly their is a way to install Knoppix from LiveCD, but I opted to go with Ubuntu, as Knoppix didnt' like my box at all. It hated my monitor settings and I prefer Gnome of KDE. I look aroudn and see if I can find the directions for installing Knopix from teh LiveCD.

ok this is what I found on the KNoppix forums for doing this from the liveCD.

(1. shrink your MS Windows, if necessary)
2. start Live Knoppix
3. click on monitor icon in pannel
4. type su + Enter
5. type cfdisk
6. don't touch Windows partition
7. make new partition for Linux, minimum 3GB, press spase bar so this partition will be bootable
8. make new partition, 400MB, then go to Type and press Enter 2x, you will get swap partition (82, I think)
9. go to Write, type yes, wait until it finish
10. reboot.

Now repet steps 2, 3, 4. Type knx2hd + Enter. Now you are in installation menu. Choose start instalation. Install boot loader in MBR.

thanks man,

that is great, thanks for checking that for me. I will have to buy a 2nd or new Hd though... the one that came with this lappy is only 2GB :tazz:
After i get a new HD, i will follow your instructions and try to get it working.

in the meantime i will try knoppix on my main pc and get that figured out.

thanks again man, this was really helpfull. ;)
