What is asking for this?
It shouldn't be asking for anything if it is booting to the cdrom itself.

compaq sais that when i try to install the xp that with it asking for a hp disk that i donot have that maybe it is because of other programs that are on the hard drive.

i am going to try something and see that happens

You should be able to format the drive from the XP installation disk but it doesn't seem like it's getting to that point.

well the old compaq is online and is downloading the antivirus for post 106.
i was able to connect to this page and look at post 106 and it is installing anti virus now.

it looks like it needs some informtion from the second cd.

the only way i could connect to the net is through run and then enter a page.

i dont see outlook express too. mayne it is on the other cd

a little confused because the wizard did not ask for second cd

however i am still very hapy to get this far. thanks to everyone

I would venture to guess the 2nd cd would have the other programs you want. I will wait to see what happens once you have that one finished. If you have other questions feel free to ask and I will help if I can.

It should be included with XP and most likely you will have to do a search for it.
Try going to Start then to All Programs
Try in Accessories and if not there then go to Microsoft's Windows update Page. It should be included there.

i got it. my auto updates downloaded the service pack three and then when did a reboot it started working. it is nice to have a notebook with nothing on it

i do have one problem. the only way i can go on the net is by going to run and entering a home page.

i was owndering how i can repair this?

when i go to start and internet explore i get internet properties.

i kinda like the browser that i have now and i did not really want to download a new one.

the net is working really good as i am on it now i just have to go to run to get on line

i was hopeing that their was a setting that i can change to go to the net without going to run
