OK thanks it is a 2715us


i was wondering why puppies program could not find the hard drive?

30 GB hard drive so that would be IDE for sure.

ok i will try and get one tomorrow and tonight i will get my notes and maybe start taking my junk apart to get to the hard drive.

any ideas why puppies could not find my hard drive?

If the hd is indeed dead mechanically then nothing will find it to be honest.
This is why I suggest trying a external enclosure and hooking it to a working system. If the working system does not see the drive then it is a good bet the drive is mechanically dead.

Not a problem and please let us know what happens when you get the external enclosure and try the steps. The good thing is you can put a new hd in the laptop and later buy another to go into the external and have files you can take anywhere then.

I believe so but it is best to check the other hard drive first. This will tell you if it is the hard drive or the system. If the drive is readable in another system then the system itself may be failing.

finally had time to get back with everyone. i have the closure for my hard drive and it is connected to my notebook but it is saying that hard drive has failed. so i am guessing that it is not going to work.

however if anyone has any ideas i am interested. thanks

If it is not identifying the hd or if running diagnostics on it as a external drive fails. Then the hard drive is most likely dead.

yea this is what i am thinking after we tried puppies and then this i am thinking that is is bad. i hear a clicking noise too in the closure that it was doing when it went down.

ok so where to go now.

if i get a new hard drive will this fix my old computer
