Hey guys I'm 14 live in New Zealand and I am about to get a new computer. When I upgrade everything will go through a gateway (or a modem & switch) and there will be 3 computers and 1 xbox connected, so I was wondering what type of protection :) will my computer have from my older brother as he is very reckless when it comes to malware/viruses :) and we are looking at getting a LInksys WAG120N.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers :)

Using the hardware you describe, I don't see how you would have much of a problem even if your brother is careless in his surfing and execution of software. Do not share file and folders with him and choose a browser other than IE8 for general use. If you choose to run Linux or a *BSD your worries WRT malware/spyware/viruses should be near zero.
