problems running any .exe file

Having finally corrected problems with rundll32 errors, I now find that anytime I try to execute anything from the control panel, I still get rundll32 error "application not found".

In addition when attempting to run other .exe files (either from desktop or start/run, I always get displayed a screen asking me what to use to open.

Any help?
