The "Application Data" file on my hard drive has been encrypted. I'm assuming so any way why else would I be denied assess to the file. I'm the only user of the laptop and have administrator privileges. I have uninstalled a program and need to get into the file to make sure all files have been deleted by the uninstall.
Please see attachment.
Any help you can give me will be appreciated.
Thanking you ahead in this matter,
iddawg

Wierd then you should have all access special permission is not needed. I would try t create another account and give him admin rights then enter with that and locate same spot and try to open, or try to enter that folder in safe mode.

I tried to open the folder in Safe Mode when I fist found out about the issue to no avail.
Virus related I found out today. Since the original post eight other files on the hard drive had joined the party; so to speak. Is there a good on line scan? So far I have been able to open all programs but I don't know how much longer I will be able to.
Thanks.

I found out today from Kaspersky's Anti-Virus team I have no infections. I still cannot get into the folders on the hard dive. I did take the laptop to a computer shop to have the upgrade to Windows 7. Is is possible that they encrypted the files so that the tech who worked on the laptop could not get to my personal info? Just curious?

Try removing the Denied Permission entry:

  • Right-click the folder.
  • Choose Properties.
  • Choose the Security tab.
  • Choose Advanced.
  • Choose Edit.
  • Make sure the Deny entry is highlighted, and choose remove.
  • Choose Apply, OK(x3)
