Retrieving Backed up files and folder

Hi

I coppied 3 folders to external hd. Saved the entire Sony folder(836 files) proir to doing a clean install of windows 7. I did not use widows easy transfer, just coppied from vista to ext. hd. So after the clean install I tried to import the entire sony folder. Well it now sits on the c-drive as a useless folder.
How can I get some to all of the folders/files/applications to work on win 7?
