Now we've got that working we'll try one or two more things.

  • Download TDSSKiller and save it to your Desktop.
  • Extract its contents to your desktop and make sure TDSSKiller.exe (the contents of the zipped file) is on the Desktop itself, not within a folder on the desktop.
  • Go to Start > Run (Or you can hold down your Windows key and press R) and copy and paste the following into the text field. (make sure you include the quote marks) Then press OK.

    "%userprofile%\Desktop\TDSSKiller.exe" -l C:\TDSSKiller.txt -v

  • If it says "Hidden service detected" DO NOT type anything in. Just press Enter on your keyboard to not do anything to the file.
  • When it is done, a log file should be created on your C: drive called "TDSSKiller.txt" please copy and paste the contents of that file here.

My computer keeps freezing when I do things. I went on Internet Explorer to update windows since it's been over a month since I could connect to the internet and it froze. Firefox froze when I tried to send you a reply. All I've been doing is rebooting this machine. I'm going to try to run the TDSSKiller as soon as it's done rebooting again.

AntiVir is telling me that the file TDSSKiller.exe that I downloaded is the TR/Dropper.Gen trojan.

Clear Cache/Temp Files
Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop
  • Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
  • Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
  • Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

I removed Java 6 Update 17 through Add/Remove programs and rebooted. When I try to install the new Java I get the following message:
The feature you're trying to remove is on a network resource that is unavailable

Also when I go into Add/Remove programs Java 6 Update 17 is still there. When I try to remove it again it gives me the above message about network resource unavailable.

This computer is really wearing me down.

I think you've got system damage contributing to all these small problems. We'll get you back to the XP forums when we've finished

Try to install Java r18 without uninstalling r17

I tried that but it gives me the same message. Then it says "The older version of Java 6 update 18 cannot be removed. It takes a good 30 minutes for my computer to boot up and start working.

Yesterday I downloaded jre6u18. I then proceeded to remove the old java through add/remove programs. It was removed from the list and I rebooted. Upon reboot I tried installing the new java and I got "the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click ok to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'jre1.6.0_10.msi' in the box below. When I click ok i get "Java 6 Update 18. The path C:\Documents and Settings\Sorber\Application Data\Sun\Java\jre1.6.0_10.msi cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package 'jre1.6.0_10.msi' in a folder from which you can install the product Java 6 Update 17.
I went back into add/remove programs and Java 6 Update 17 is there again but there is no Java in my control panel.
