games crashing

Could someone please help me, whenever I play games they sometimes crash, the computer goes back into windows and when i click on the taskbar to go back to the game it crashes. I've noticed a tab appearing in the taskbar occasionally for a split second then going away even when not playing games, how do i find out what this is. Thanks in advance for your help. :tazz:
