Hi Guys
I do not know if this is the right section. But please help me. I have an Acer laptop which ws running windows XP and 7 RC, fine until few weeks ago. Xp started to crash and windows 7 would only boot in safe mode. I have checked RAM and HDD with various softwaes. I have formatted the windows XP and 7 partitions and restored to original factory settings with acer supplied CDs. I tried Vista as well. It will only boot in work in safe mode. It does boot in normal mode both in XP and Vista but hangs very quickly but never hangs in safe mode, can run for hous and hours. Now I have XP safe mode running I have falshed the IOS to a higher version (from Acer website).
I also installed UBUNTU but that wont boot at all would go to some screen and stops at most it has shown some Ubuntu boot icon as its boots, but never went furher then that.

Please give me suggestions how I can sort it out. I can format the whold drive but would loose the recovery partition. Any ideas guys.....

Thanks

If it only works in safe mode, then this is almost positively a software/malware problem.

If you think it's malware related, you gonna have to:

Move to the Malware Forum!

Please read the Malware and Spyware Cleaning Guide and follow the instructions thoroughly, starting at the top...

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty--and you may not be-- then post an OTL log in the MALWARE forum.

If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from a malware expert, please return to this thread.

HJT or OTL logs are only allowed in the malware forum, hence the reason why yours was removed.
