I have a q regarding windows and msn messenger?

In 'processes' when i ctrl+alt+del there are two processes: msnmsgr.exe (self explanatory) and msmsgs.exe. When i exect msn messenger, msmsgs is still running, is this windows messenger still running?? is there a way to remove its integration, its frustrating me and sometimes ppl can message me wen msn isnt even on, yet theres no windows msgr icon in the system tray.

im very confused lol!
