The dorky and limited interface was one I had actually not seen before all these problems of late. I had successfully used the ScanWizard and ScanMaster software for years. This is something new to me which I am guessing is either a basic scanner interfaace from either Windows XP, Photoshop or from the scanner. Never having seen it until very recently ( within the last weeks)I am only guessing as to its origin. The Scanmaker software has more controls available.

MINOLTA SCANDUAL 1 ON WINDOWS XP SP3

Do not despair if you have an EARLY Minolta Scan Dual 1 WITHOUT the Macintosh G3 and Windows XP compatibility! There are indeed one or two reports on the internet of people who have got the early version to work on XP, but if I recall correctly, how they did it was not fully documented, probably because, as is often really the case, they had to fiddle about so much that they didn’t really know! I have an early ScanDual I which I bought secondhand, so I had no box to help identify, but which had no mention of G3, XP or Windows 2000 in the documentation, and came with an installation disk with a very early software version 1.0.0.1 dated 14/10/97.

I am almost certain this is one of the very early ones that don’t work reliably on XP, though I did have it working once but made very little use of it. I had to do a clean instal recently and was quite unable to get the ScanDual to work with the original software. I believe that the latest software is indeed 2.0.1. - mention of a software version 2.1.0 in the blogs is probably a misprint. I have downloaded version 2.0.1 - available at two Minolta sites – and found that it satisfactorily upgrades my hardware to work OK on XP (SP3).

I have since found that this was discovered and reported on earlier, see:
