Reinstalling Windows XP

So I'm working on fixing a windows install that won't boot, and I finally decided to do a clean install. Then I realized the version is XP Media Center which I don't have a disk for. The good news (I think) is there is a copy of the install cd (i386 folder) on the drive. So my though was, can I just copy the folder onto a separate hard drive, boot into DOS and install XP from the harddrive using winnt.exe in the i386 file? If so, will this be the same install as before and will the key on the side of the computer work? Thanks for any help!
