I have run through all the programs your site requires and am still having problems! This trojan will end up destroying my internet connection. I need help quick!!!

What happened: I was surfing the web (via bellsouth DSL) when my Avast Free-ware's alarm went off. I clicked onto the area to fix the problem and the dialog box disappeared. I closed IE and immediately checked for updates an ran the Avast scan program. It found nothing!

I then noticed several new icons in my sys tray:

1. Safely Remove Hardware icon displaying "Safely Remove: Toshiba DVDROMSD-C2502 DRIVE D + Netopia 802.1b Wylan Cardbus Card #2

2. Netopia Wireless Security (wanting me to install)

3. Signed in on Windows Messenger.

I then ran Spybot S & D, Adaware SE these programs found nothing critical. I then checked my System Restore and all my restore points were gone.

I signed on to your website and followed your protocol including:

- downloading WinsockZPFix for Windows
- CleanUP!
- Ran AdAware SE (following your instructions) - still nothing
- CWS Shredder - nothing found
- Trend Housecall - nothing found
- I removed Avast and dowloaded and Scanned using AVG
- I downloaded and ran TD3 and the folowing were reported:
Couldn't open C:\windows\$intuninstallllq307274$\spuninst\spuninst.exe file is locked
Couldn't open C:\windows\$intuninstallllq311889$\spuninst\spuninst.exe file is locked
Couldn't open C:\windows\$intuninstallllq311345$\spuninst\spuninst.exe file is locked
In alarm window I deleted this file: c:\windows\downloaded program files\connector for launcher.dll It called this a Adware.Downloadware(dll)

I rebooted and tested and these new icons are still in my tray.

I have run Hijack This and this is the logfile:

Can someone please help!!! I lost my PC to this same thing this week. I don't won't to loose my laptop!!

Okay I got my PC back and the tech said that I had 2 trojans one which he called back door and the other he could not name but he mentioned it was a "three pronged trojan? (I may have this part wrong because of his heavy oriental accent. This tech has been there for 3 years and was recommended by many people) The second virus on my PC was embedded in my documents under a family members name. Does this sound familiar because the above information is about my laptop, which is acting just like my PC did before I could no longer access the web! Please help!!!

Please download ewido security suite
  • Install ewido security suite
  • Launch ewido, there should be a big E icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Reboot into Safe Mode, you can do this by restarting your computer, then contiunally tapping F8 until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter. Then, run Ewido.
  • Click on scanner
  • Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
    • Binder
    • Crypter
    • Archives
  • Click on Start Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop
Reboot into normal mode.

Then, please run this online virus scan:
ActiveScan

Save the results from ActiveScan.

I need you to post the log from Ewido, the log from ActiveScan and a new HiJackThis log.

The icon is fine. So is your log. Is Netopia part of your DSL?

Yes it is, which means you need to re-install Netopia software to get your DSL back. The security update was something for your DSL.

Okay back on-line with DSL. However, the Safely remove hardware icon is still in my tray. That's started showing up on my PC before I lost access to the internet. How do I remove that Icon from showing up. It just shows the name of the program when I right click onto it.

It is a legitimate icon for your hardware.

I'm not 100% sure it can be removed safely, but I'll find out for you :tazz:
