I fixed it myself. Downloaded the patches one by one from Activision and got it to work.

I wouldn't be suprised it this is the "game of the year" edition. It's known for having similar issues.

well, I reinstalled cod2 and was able to duplicate the issue. It's definatetly something to do with the patch itself.

I highly recommend getting the patches from http://codhq.com/
Registration is required.

http://www.codhq.com...n...load&cid=26

for the record, this is what the folder for cod2 @1.2 should look like:
\docs\
\main\
\miles\
\pb\
cod2mp_s.exe
cod2sp_s.exe
cod2patch.ini
cod.bmp
codlogo.bmp
gfx_d3d_mp_x86_s.dll
gfx_d3d_x86_s.dll
localization.txt
mss32.dll
version.inf

under \main\
iw_00.iwd through iw_15.iwd
localized_english_iw00.iwd through localized_english_iw11.iwd

Just to reiterate, once I downloaded the patches from codhq, I was able to install them successfully. Installing patches downloaded elsewhere duplicated the issue.

AHHH finally i have found the solution. It seems to be a problem with the actual patch downloads themselves. I won't say from which sites but after several failed attempts from different sites (all patches led me to the same "Could not find valid installation...") i finally found one that worked. It seemed like a much larger file over 500 MB versus just a couple hundred MB for the others. Don't know if this will help you but i finally got patched all the way up.

Insert your call of duty disk. Don't run autorun, but just open the disk to read the files by right clicking the disk in my computer and selecting "open". Then, in another window, open your c:/program files/call of duty world at war. Move the Call of duty WAW application file and the COD WAW MP file to your installation file. For some reason, they aren't in there which makes the patch think you don't have a valid installation. Good luck. Reply with success stories.

I REALLY found the solution. I don't know about you, but I moved the files from my installation disk by opening the disk in "my computer" and moving the COD Single player application and the Multiplayer application to the program files folder and now my patches install. Good luck.
