Can anyone help me?

I have films on my computer that are avi format. Some of them play but i have a few that are telling me that the file is not supported so it wont play. i have usually been usin windows media player but i have also downloaded divX which also doesnt work?

What is wrong? Do i need another player?

Now i have downloaded that what do i do with it? I am so confused with all theses programs that i have been told to download.

File>Open>point to your_file.avi to play it.

That wont work, everytime i try to do that its say that VLC has incurred a problem and has to close.

In that case you have a rather more serious problem.

Which version of Windows is in question here and do you have the operating system software which came with the PC?
