I am in the process of building a computer and have run into a bit of a snag. First I'll give you the specs:

MB: VIA KT333 Soyo Dragon Lite
RAM: 256 PC 2700
Optical Drives: 1 CD-RW
HD: 1 Brand New 80GB 2700 rpm Maxtor
Cards: 1 56K Modem
Graphics: AGP GeForce FX 5700

Now, This computer is basically my old one. The only missing from it is a hard drive (which i reformatted and placed in my new computer as a spare) So I went out and bought a brand new 80 gig one and put that in there. The problem is this: When I plug everything in and start the somputer, it starts to boot like normal, except that the hard drive does not appear to be spinning and the weirdest part is that during POST, immediatly after finishing the memory test, it freezes. I cant press anything, it wont boot from the Windows CD, nothing. Now even if I press the delete key to enter BIOS, as soon as I press that, the computer freezes up, and nothing else happens. I have checked the power supply and it seems to be working fine, I switched the connectors back and forth between the CD-RW drive and HD, but either way the HDF doesn't seem to spin. I have a feeling this might be a combonation of problems including a screwed up CPU and/or bad HD.

Any ideas?

have you tried using a different power connector to the HDD?
next step would be to disconnect the hdd completely- well, leave the power into it, but disconnect its IDE cable from the mobo, at the mobo. remove the modem card, and try to boot. if you can get into BIOS, then you can check configuration is correct for your processor, and drive configuration, etc.
then reconnect hdd, see if problem returns.

also, is this the same case the mobo etc was in before? if not, the mobo may not be mounted correctly, and possibly shorting against something.

Haven't ever done the Lite version of that board, but am quite familiar with the KT7 333 Dragon Ultra Platinum and I'm going to assume (sometimes a big mistake) they are quite similar. Be forewarned - memory is a big problem with this board and there is just flat out, some memory that isn't going to run on this puppy. Back to your dilemma - you'll need to clear CMOS based upon the description of what ails you. Then I'd suggest following audioboys directions but I'd take it one step further and pull all cards except video until you get this thing to show some signs of life. Assuming you do get into the BIOS it may also be adviseable to set your memory at 133 instead of 166 for starters. You can always come back later and try running your PC2700 at full speed. I'd also go with BIOS defaults initially, but let us know if you can get this puppy to post before we go further.

SoyoUSA will list compatable and recommended memory for this board.

Hey, I think i fixed the problem. It appears that the IDE Cable that was connecting my HDD to my MB was torn at the bottom, (where the grey wires meet the blue connector, all i did was switch out this cable and it booted without a hitch!

Thanks for the help guys/gals I will definantly be comming here with any other problems I have!
