Hello, I've tried to everything I can to not post anything about this on the forums, since I'd hate to make my first post one about help...but I can't fix my computer. For about a week my computer has been acting very strangely.

One thing is that I get thsoe aurora pop-ups, but it happens randomly. Sometimes I'll be on the internet for 15 minutes, and no pop-ups will come on...sometimes I'll get 3 in a minute. I also have McAfee virusscan, and everyday it picks up a number of items (or items that repeat themselves). THe first one is called "download-LG" [I think], and I get other ones sometimes called "Generic Back Door" and something else [I'll update with the actual virus names once they pop-up again]. Also, I don't know if this is related to anything or not, but whenever I do a scan with Ad-Aware SE upon bootup, it'll do the scan, but afterwards it will just close and not do anything with the viruses it picks up (I usually get ~25 items picked up in there, and I can everyday).

I've tried a lot of things to overcome this. I've ran McAfee VirusScan (updated) several times. I also use Ad-Aware SE often. I downloaded Ewido, and it said there were two items it could not remove (I'll post the log after this), and TDS-3 (I don't really know what the outcome of that was). I've also read the first post where all the downloads are located.

Below is both the ewido and hijack this log. Any help would be greatly appreciated :tazz:. Thanks in advance!

Hi shortysnmn2010 and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Excal and I will be helping you today.

After reviewing your HiJack log file I can see that you have some Malware issues.
So lets get these things take care of.

Download Nailfix from Here
(do NOT run it yet.)
Download about:buster by RubbeRDuckY Here.
Download CWShredder Here.
Download and install CleanUp! Here (do not run yet)

Save all of these files somewhere you will remember like to the Desktop.

Please print out a copy of these instructions to have them handy

1. Update About:Buster
  • Unzip the contents of AboutBuster.zip and an AboutBuster directory will be created.
  • Navigate to the AboutBuster directory and double-click on AboutBuster.exe.
  • Click "OK" at the prompt with instructions.
  • Click "Update" and then "Check For Update" to begin the update process.
  • If any updates exist please download them by clicking "Download Update" then click the X to close that window.
  • Now close About:Buster
2. Update CWShredder
  • Open CWShredder and click I AGREE
  • Click Check For Update
  • Close CWShredder
3.Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

4.Please run about:buster by RubbeRDuckY:
  • Click Start and then OK to allow AboutBuster to scan for Alternate Data Streams.
  • Click Yes to allow it to shutdown explorer.exe.
  • It will begin to check your computer for malicious files. If it asks if you would like to do a second pass, allow it to do so.
  • When it has finished, click Save Log. Make sure you save it as I may need a copy of it later.
  • Reboot your computer into safe mode again
Run about:buster again following the same instructions as above, this time without the restart at the end

5. Now run CWShredder. Click I Agree, then Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about.

6. Reboot into safe mode.
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

7. Please double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal

8. Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

9. Open HiJack and do a scan.

10. Put a Check next to the following items, then click the Fix Checked box

11. Please remove just the files from the following paths using Windows Explorer (if present):
C:\WINDOWS\systb.dll
C:\WINDOWS\wupdt.exe
C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe
c:\windows\system32\guxoud.exe

12. Run the program "Clean Up"

12. Reboot in normal mode and Please post the ewido log, about:buster log and a fresh HijackThis Log to verify all is good. Ensure you rehide your “hidden files and folders” back to the way they were.

Hey, thanks for you guy's help ^^ - I really appreciate it.

I did what was instructed, but I came across a few problems :)

- CWShredder didn't find anything to fix (or didn't ask to fix anything at least)
- For Nailfix, I didn't see a window come and leave quickly, but instead gave me the prompt at the beginning of safe mode again (where it asks you to either continue safe mode or use a restore point)
- I couldn't find most of the items that needed to be removed once I ran HiJack. When I decided to try it again in regular mode, I found a few, but not all
- None of the items from step 11 were found (don't know if that is necessarily bad or not)
- It seems like the windows "safe mode" theme still stays, and I can't go back to the "XP" look for my start menu ;)
- Aurora popped up :tazz:

Here's the logs that was asked to be posted again - sorry for any inconvienences ;)

Hi shortysnmn2010! Seem better but we still got some more to do.
Lets take care of these things and see if it clears your problems.

Please print out a copy of these instructions to have them handy

1. Please download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

2. Update Ewido with the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

3. Please download Nailfix from
Here
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

4. Click this link to be sure you can view hidden files.

5. Ensure you are NOT connected to the internet.

6. Open Killbox.
  • Select "Delete on Reboot".
  • Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

    c:\windows\system32\hvmoen.exe

  • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".
  • Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.
7. Reboot into safe mode.
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

8. Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

9. Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

10. Next please run HijackThis.

11. Put a Check next to the following items, then click the Fix Checked box

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

12. Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Hi shortysnmn2010! Yes it was ;)

Great job, it appears your computer is clean :tazz:

Now that your system is Malware Free, it is important to reset your system Restore. Click Here to learn how to.

Might I suggest the following Free Spyware programs for added security, you can download them at the following links. These programs work great for detection:

Ad-aware SE

Spybot S&D
I also suggest that you dowload this free virus scanner from AVG:

AVG

The following free programs are great for prevention:

SpywareBlaster 3.4

Spywareguard

IE/Spyad
A Firewall is a must! Here are 2 good free versions:

Sygate

ZoneLabs

There are other options other than Internet Explorer for a browser, which some say have better security. Two of them are:

Firefox

Opera

This site
is a great source for tightening up security on Internet Explorer settings.

Make sure that you keep your Operating System and IE updated with the latest Critical Security Updates from Microsoft...they usually come out once a month, on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.
Included in those updates is Windows XP Service Pack 2. Click Here
Since you're junkware free, the time to get it is NOW. Service Pack 2 is a MAJOR upgrade for XP. It adds numerous security and software patches, as well as new features and functionality. You will also be adding another layer of protection against future threats.

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
For ease use the following program:

Cleanup
Run "Cleanup" and when it has finished, Reboot
