How do I recover a backup?

My hard drive went bad but in the process of trying to reinstall the operating system (before I knew the drive was bad) I was able to do a backup with the HP Recovery Software. OK, hard drive has been replaced and for the life of me I can not figure out how to restore the backup of favorites, email, docs, etc. Hoping someone can clue me in! Thanks in advance.
