I also contacted acer for this. I couldn't afford expensive battery since I'm just a student that needed this netbook to work for school projects.

I use batteryedge.com and ebay.com for batteries. I picked up a battery for my Dell E1505 off of ebay for $38.00 and change(which retails for $150+ for the 9cell) And I just got a battery for my (neused) IBM T40 which had a rapidly aging battery for $60 shipped from battery edge.
With ebay just make sure they offer a warranty on the battery your getting. With battery edge they have a 1yr warranty on defects / workmanship meaning they wont cover it if it dies on its own.
From batteryedge.com your looking at $39-$66 depending on which model battery you want, standard, hi-capacity, ultra hi-capacity.
