Hi

Now that is a good question....it is something that I had noticed but not really thought to mention (sorry).

Once we are in a website, moving around within it is generally quite a bit quicker than when it first opens.
The page may be visible but the "timer" on the Firefox tab can still be turning (and the bar in the bottom right not fully loaded) but enough is there for you to move on to another page.

I don't think it is as quick as it was before the problem started but there is a clear speed improvement once the site has been accessed.

sorry but your next to last post email notification never got to me...
I just started having the same symptoms you are experiencing 2 days ago...
put up with it for the first day because my ISP has been upgrading their network for the last several months and we have been getting periods of time with the slow downs then the speed would return to normal...
but I start work at 5AM and I was having the same problem so I contacted my ISP support and had them run the speed test to my modem from their end...after 3 different tests there was a 12% packet loss the first time and a 30% the second time and a 74% loss the 3 time...they sent a tech out and after he confirmed that it not any settings on my end he swapped out the modem and the problem is gone...
I suggest you contact your ISP and have them test your modem from their end...
for the future if I have not replied to your last post for over a day PM me

Thanks Happyrock

Sorry to hear that you were having problems too but glad that yours was sorted out.

I will do as you suggest but do you think it is likely to be a modem problem as the laptop works fine even when plumbed into the modem by wire??

Cheers

sorry I forgot the laptop doesn't have the speed issue...
lets do a repair on the tower...for the how to repair your operating system guides...
go here...

if you don't have a xp cd you will have to borrow one from a friend or coworker...
it has to be the same flavor of xp you have installed...IE: if you have xp pro...the one you borrow has to be xp pro

Hi Happyrock

I did as you suggested and repaired windows last night. The couldn't get the PC to recognise the modem at all.
I spent an hour this morning with my ISP helpdesk to no avail.

After a play around this afternoon, I repaired Kaspersky and that gave me internet access back.......AT FULL SPEEEEED

Thanks for all the time and effort you have put into getting us back to normal.

I was almost ready to bin the old girl and buy a new one out of sheer frustration.

Thanks again

Pete
