what is the make and model of your system if it is a brand name system?
If custom built what motherboard make and model is it?
Did you receive a drivers disk with your system?
What was the reason for the erasing of everything and did he format and then reinstall everything and with what did he reinstall with?

According to emachines website that system has a modem not a nic card
You can go HERE to check for it.
If this is not correct then i will have you run another program to be able to identify the nic card so we can find drivers for it.
