dvd multi recorder/cd-rw won't work

Hello,
I have an IBM T40 windows xp. I just changed my cd drive to dvd multi drive/ cd-rw. It worked fine playing and burning cd but it won't work playing dvds and it won't burn movies either. Do I need to install the driver for this and where I can find it? Does anybody know how to fix it? thanks
