:tazz: G'day all. Novice in Australia here. But 'expert' to my friends.
Me mates putey has a bad case of About: blank on it and I can't scrub it with Spybot/Adaware/CWShredder or AVG. All are updated. I ran HIjackthis and clicked the R1 and R0's but they just keep coming back! Can anyone help on this one? I'm a bit scared as it's not my putey and I'd hate to close it down on them. They still have their XP instal disk and that is an option we've discussed. here's the Hijack log...

Hints for me and others.. For all the
R1 and R0 things in HJT, I found that by starting in safe mode and THEN doing an HJT, it got rid of 'em.
The putey is working now but a "...goforsearch..**..".. keeps popping up ads.
But at least my friends putey is online.
So, any help on just ht e 'Gofor.." would be appreciated.
Cheers gang.

Hiya Usedtobe,
I regret the delay in replying. Here is thelatest log from my friends putey.
It seems to be running fairly smoothly at the moment but I'm just not sure if it's all fully cleaned.
Thanks for your time.

Hi learnatic,

Nice and easy this one.

Reboot pc into SAFEMODE by tapping the F8 key whilst pc starts up, select SAFE MODE.

Rescan with HJT and check the following

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=explorer.exe, msmsgs.exe

Ensure no windows open except HJT and click FIX CHECKED.

Reboot normally, rescan with HJT and post the log back

Usetobe etc, I have finally made contact with my friends up the street and they say the machine is running pure now. They are a very busy couple and if they send me a "HjT" log well and good; otherwise, thanks for youyr help. It fascinates me how many people contact in a panic and when you've assisted, they don't reply.
Cheers.
