okay heres the thing every year my birthday comes round and something always goes wrong with my pc last year my power supply blew the year b4 th my internet wouldn't work, the year b4 Office wouldn't work this year my computer wont even start up.

The problem

heres what happened last night i closed my pc down & went out 4 a meal. this morning (afternoon actually=P) i tried to power it up but nothing the power & restart light flashed once but tht was it no fans or anything

I just had this recently with a brand new Compaq DX6100 i was working on recently...

Cause of the problem... Faulty PSU, Compaq sent one out next day worked fine has worked fine since.

Thats what i was afraid of, ive had psu problems with this pc b4 looks like im going to have to buy my 3rd PSU >.< thts almost one a year.

Anything i can do to stop this thing popping so frequently atm its a 350w PSU would a higher watt PSU make it last longer?

Oh a ty 4 the Happy birthday although it wont be one until the pcs up & running again =P

You might also want to consider a UPC (uninteruptable power supply) basicly its a battery backup in addition to the psu in your computer. This may save the psu's if you have power problems in your house or area.

okay well i bought a new psu 550w (previously 350w) put it in but ive still got no power. as 4 the specs its a

P4 3ghz
512Mb Ram
30ghz hard drive ( i think)
5.1 Audigy (& 5.1 speakers )
Radeon 9800
Wireless High speed network card (installed as of about 6 days ago)
DVD ROM / CD-RW combo
52X CD ROM
ZIP 100 Drive
FloppyDrive (broken but its in their)

right thats everything although if their space 4 a kitchen sink mayb ill install one

I dont have power probs in my area at all or at least nothing except tht pc has had problems with power

Make sure the hs is not loose in any way, if it is then thats the problem. Make sure the cpu fan connector did not come loose from the mobo

Do you have a case speaker hooked up and are there any beeps?

Disconnect all the drives and cards except video to see if it will boot into bios, this is standard troubleshooting with a problem such as this but you mentioned two things,

The broken floppy and new network card maybe one of these is causing a problem.

If you can boot into bios then add just the hdd and see if you can boot to windows if so then add the remaining cards and drives till you find the offending one.

If after you do all of the above and still no go then clear the cmos and try and boot to bios still with all drives disconnected.

If still no go post back

I kept blowing 350w PSU's even though they "theoretically" should have sufficed.

Since installing a cheap 450w PSU, I've had no probs for a couple years now.

-Nop i got no internal speakers

-think 1st ill try taking out the troublesome bits (floppy & network card) to see if i can get it 2 power up. then if that dont work ill try disconnecting all cards & drives *sigh*

okay tried just the graphics card & hard drive plugged in still not powering up.

You should have a case speaker connected it can help diagnose problems by giving off beep codes so if possible connect one and post any beeps that you get.

Try the ram in a different slot

Inspect the mobo very carefully look close at the capacitors for signs of bulging or leaking, look for any black or burned areas.
