Hi i seem to be infected by a Trojan fake av symantic is saying that quarantine failed, it has installed an XP type of icon in the system tray and doesn't allow me to open any browsers or apps..need help

i restored the computer to a date last week and the XP tool has gone from the system tray and the browsers are working ok..currently running MBAM on quick scan will advise if any thing shows up could this have resolved the problem?
