I've decided I want to 'Try Ubuntu'. Seeing as there is a try ubuntu option. Also I'm finding it difficult trying to boot into into the CD. I went to the boot menu and it I can't find the CD/DVD-ROM device.

Pawanhammers-

What options do you see when you get to the boot menu in your BIOS?

Thanks its resolved all it was, was that the CD boot was not enabled in the DELL configuration. At the moment im on the 'try ubuntu option'. I must say it rather is very nice as an operating system! Anyway I have 2 computers, 1 has 2 hard disks which are 250GB and 150 GB. The other has 1 hard disk which has 40GB. I would prefer to have Ubuntu on the second one but the hard drive is very small.

If I did do dual boot with the second one, would it work ? and would you recommend doing it on there?

Pawanhammers-

Dual-booting on 40 GB won't give you much space. Maybe try installing Ubuntu on one of the separate hard disks of your first computer?

Yep.
I think that'll be the best solution. I think i'm going to install it on the 150GB hard disk!

Pawanhammers-

Sounds good. I'd like to reiterate what DaffyKantReed said and make sure you back up your files. Of course, having a backup of files is never a bad thing even if you aren't making serious changes. :)

If the disk is clean then you can just install Ubuntu straight onto the hard drive. If it already has data or an OS installed, you're going to need to take a few more steps.

Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with. :)

I use the 150GB drive for storage. ( Music, Photos. Etc.) How am I supposed to back it up? Also i'm aware that Ubuntu 10.04 is coming out soon. Will it update it for me ?

Pawanhammers:

You can easily install both Ubuntu and Windows XP on a 40GB hard drive. You will not be able to install huge numbers of games, etc, but for the most common tasks, 40GB will work.
