LCD screen problem

hi i have recently purchased a compaq presario f500 laptop from a friend who had dropped it. the old lcd screen was broken so i have replaced it but now when i power up the machine all i get on the display is a white screen. i have connected an external monitor and it is booting fine on that screen but still i just get a white screen from the new lcd one i fitted. please could any1 help with what may be causing this problem and how i may solve it.

ok after much seeking advice i have been informed that there is a possibility that there was a design flaw when creating the nvidea graphics chip on this and that they tend to break very easily therefor this is where my problem more than likely lays. has any1 heard anything like this before?
