Just out of curiosity because I'm considering re-imaging my hard drive,
If I reformat and reinstall windows, wouldI need to obtain a new windows product key? Or would it carry over? Thanks.

You can use the same activation key just as long as you don't use the code on a different machine while this one is still running. If you have any problems, the tech staff that you can call using the number you are provided with when activating through "Activate by phone" will usually bend over backwards to get you activated.
