I had a rogue security threat microsoft 2010 and I used sytem restore back to Feb 14th on xphome. well the restore seemed towork and when the machine reboooted it showed a window OPEN WITH and saked what i wanted to open resto.exe withw hich program. and then I knew I was screwed. I just cancled and the desktoplooks fine but nothing opens or works. everything I do opens that window and OPEN WITH and lists the programs on the computer and thats it. I trried word pad and clicked the word pad and asid ok and I got a bunch of characters among which was This Program can not open in Dos. I tried to do another restore and get the OPEN WITH window. I tried from run to do sfc /scannow and got it cannot be found. I hope you can suggest something. I was going to goto the recovery console and do chkdsk /r but wanted to get some advice first, thanks for any help you can give. Also < tried to post this and no cant find it anywhere so I am trying to post it again. I am sorry if it posts 2 times.

I suggest you go to the Malware Removal and Spyware Removal Forum and run all the steps located in the
START HERE. These self-help tools will help you clean up 70% of problems on your own.
If you are still having problems after doing the steps, then please post the reguested logs in THAT forum.

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).

I guess it was not clear to you that i was unable to run anything and that all my commands came up with Open With window. It was impossible to run any anti malware programs or else i would have done that. I posted here because the problem was no longer a malware/spyware problem but an incomplete system restore. I do understand why you wanted it posted in malware but it is now unnecessary. I got the problem solved by going to safemode Command prompt and running the system restore from there %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrul.exe( enter)
Picked a date previous to the bad restore point and allis well. thank you for responding
