This has actually been posted about before but I couldn't find a solution for my computer. Yesterday I received a link from a good friend saying "is this you?" and then a link saying something about a photo and the end had my email address in it. I foolishly assumed it was actually a picture of me and opened it. Now its sending the same message to EVERY single person on my msn if I'm set to appear offline. I ran Ad-Aware SE with still no resolution. And now I can't do an update of my anti-virus McAfee!!!

. If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there

2. Also, while at the My Controls page, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
.Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification"

3. Please DELETE your current HJT program from your Desktop.

4. Download the most current version of Hijackthis (v.1.99.1) to a folder of its own. HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

A. Please click on the "My Computer" icon, then the C: drive icon. Next Right click on the desktop and choose NEW from the list available then> Folder' and name the folder 'HijackThis'. The end result should resemble something like this C:\HijackThis\

B. Download Hijackthis from:HERE

C. Double Click on 'HijackThis.zip' to extract and install HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

D. Close ALL windows except HJT

E. SCAN with HJT and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')

F. POST the log in this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')


DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Hi jrcoelho,

You have installed HJT into a Temporary Folder. Please follow the following directions to rectify the problem:


1. Please DELETE your current HJT program from its present location.

2. Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

A. Close ALL windows except HJT

B. SCAN with HJT and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')

C. POST the log in this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')


DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Hi jrcoelho,

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

New.Net is malware that corrupts your internet connection as can be seen by the 010 entries in your HJT. This is the first problem we have to solve. Make sure you don't skip a step here because your internet connection is at stake.

Backup the registry by going to Start>Run> and type ‘regedit’ without the quotes. Then on the file menu choose ‘backup registry’ in Windows 9x and ‘export’ in XP.

Download the LSPfix.txt and read the readme file.

Download LSPfix.zip or LSPfix.exe

Use this program only if you can not connect to the Internet after removing New(Dot)Net.

Follow these steps to remove NewDotNet:
A. Go to Start -> Control Panel.
B. Uninstall NewDotNet (New.Net) from Add/Remove Programs

If there is no uninstall program listed then do the following:
Go to http://www.newdotnet.com/removal.html ; scroll down to Procedure 4 and follow the removal instructions.

If you can not connect to the Internet after removing New(Dot)Net, please run the LSP-Fix program downloaded earlier, and click on the "Finish" button.
***To start the LSPfix....Close all windows except LSPfix

Launch LSPfix.zip and install to its own folder, then click on LSPfix.exe. Or click on LSPfix.exe and it will launch the program.


Reboot your system.

This is not too involved and it works. Good luck

Hi Trevuren

I couldn't do the "Backup the registry by going to Start>Run> and type ‘regedit’ without the quotes. Then on the file menu choose ‘backup registry’ in Windows 9x and ‘export’ in XP" because this funtion didn't appear on the file menu!

However I've remove NewDotNet and there was no problem with the connection to the internet!But the anti-virus remains in the same way...I can't do the update of McAfee.

Hi jrcoelho,

The New.Net infection appears to be gone. Now we tackle the LOP infection.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

You have a LOP infection that often comes together with Messenger Plus. To remove it we will try the simple way first.

1. Go to Add/Remove programs. Double click on "Messenger Plus!" (or click on Remove)

2. The "Messenger Plus! - Setup" is now displayed. Click on the Uninstall button. Note: options displayed on the first screen are not related to the sponsor program.

3. The sponsor screen is now displayed (if you don't see it, search for it in your Task Bar). To prove that someone is currently reading the screen, you have to type the code that is displayed. Once you enter the code, press Uninstall.

4. If you entered the code properly, the program will ask you to confirm that you want to uninstall. You must answer "Yes" to this question, else, you won't have another chance of uninstalling.

5. To complete the uninstallation, follow the instructions that are displayed (the first one is to close all your Internet Explorer windows, that's very important). When everything is complete, REBOOT your computer.

6. Finally, run HijackThis and with all windows closed except for HJT, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

Please download, install, update and scan your system with the free version of Ewido trojan scanner:

• When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
• When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
• From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
• After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"), click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take quite a while to run, so time to go get a drink and a snack....
• If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
• When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Please then paste the contents of the text file to this thread, along with a new HijackThis log.

1. Now I want you to UNINSTALL the following programs through the ADD/REMOVE feature of your Control Panel:

Media Access

2. Now, using Windows Explorer, I need you to DELETE the following folder(s) and all their content:

C:\Program Files\Media Access

3. REBOOT your system

4. You have a Lop.com infection. To remove it, follow the directions below.(Second try at it)

Re-Install Messenger Plus 3 from their site and accept the ads part which we will use next session.( I do know what I am doing)

5. REBOOT your system

6. Finally, run HijackThis and with all windows closed except for HJT, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

You have a LOP infection that often comes together with Messenger Plus. To remove it we will try the simple way first.

1. Go to Add/Remove programs. Double click on "Messenger Plus!" (or click on Remove)

2. The "Messenger Plus! - Setup" is now displayed. Click on the Uninstall button. Note: options displayed on the first screen are not related to the sponsor program.

3. The sponsor screen is now displayed (if you don't see it, search for it in your Task Bar). To prove that someone is currently reading the screen, you have to type the code that is displayed. Once you enter the code, press Uninstall.

4. If you entered the code properly, the program will ask you to confirm that you want to uninstall. You must answer "Yes" to this question, else, you won't have another chance of uninstalling.

5. To complete the uninstallation, follow the instructions that are displayed (the first one is to close all your Internet Explorer windows, that's very important). When everything is complete, REBOOT your computer.

6. Run HJT, SCAN, produce a log and Copy the log into this thread,
