When I run MRT, my computer does a hard shut-down. I've watched to see where, (file area), and tried to do a custom scan of that file area.. MRT won't do a custom scan. It always goes to full or quick. As far as I can tell, I am doing it correctly.
When I run Microsoft Security Essentials, (full scan), I get no shut-down and clean bill of health.
Also, when I defrag, (both XP's and Piriform Defraggler), I am told I have fragged files but it won't tell me name or path...... Not many, only 1 or 2. Any thoughts??? I don't get shut downs while working or during hibernation........??????

Duplicate your error and post the last few System logs from your Event Viewer. Its probably just conflicting with another service.

Hi guys can I hopefully help a little to make this easier.

• Please download the Event Viewer Tool by Vino Rosso VEW and save it to your Desktop:
• Double-click VEW.exe
• Under 'Select log to query', select (as appropriate):
  
  • Application
  • System
• Under 'Select type to list', select (as appropriate):
  
  • Error
  • Information
  • Warning

Then use the 'Date of events' or 'Number of events' as follows:

Either:

• Click the radio button for 'Number of events'
  Type 3 in the 1 to 20 box (or any number from 1 to 20)
  Then click the Run button.
  Notepad will open with the output log.
  
  
• Click the radio button for 'Date of events'
  In the From: boxes type today's date (presuming the crash happened today) 13 07 2009
  In the To: boxes type today's date (presuming the crash happened today) 13 07 2009
  Then click the Run button.
  Notepad will open with the output log.

What is FreezeScreenSaver? Something you installed?

I would try starting up your machine with all non essential services disabled. Type services.msc from the command line, make sure you hide all Microsoft services, uncheck all boxes and reboot. Try to recreate the issue.

I Googled FreezeScreenSaver.exe... at File.Net:

Ran "Antisptware.com" scan and it said it found stuff but I had to buy their stuff to get rid of it.
Also.... It let me pick specific files to scan. MRT won't... or i'm doing something wrong. And why doesn't MRT find what Antispyware.com found.??? Is my computers attempts to get to FreezeScreenSaver.exe making it crash.....

if you are unable to download or run ANY of the tools...try downloading them on another computer and put them on a flash drive or cd and try installing them that way..
