Was helping my in-laws and after installing McAfee Security had the following problem.
On restart necessary to finish loading the security software the computer just froze. The mouse still moves, however.
We get wallpaper and then nothing else happens.
When pressing CNTRL ALT DEL, I see that the Virus Scan has started up, but then it says that MSGSRV32 is not responding.
I tried to start in safe mode and the exact same thing happens. No matter how long you wait it just stays there and never loads anything.
It all seemed to be working just fine before we loaded the McAfee. We had cleaned up the start menu and desktop and restarted at least twice with no problem, once immediately before installing the McAfee.
Any clues as to what we should do? :tazz:
Thanks for your help in advance.

so no windows at all?

Boot with a dos bootdisk and at the a:\ prompt type

attrib -r -a -s -h autoexec.bat
attrib -r -a -s -h config.sys

rename autoexec.bat autoexec.bak
rename config.sys config.bak

Next, type

this will bring up a text editor

Hit the alt key to activate the menus, then choose FILE > OPEN

you need to navigate to c:\windows and open

look in the load= and run= lines...remove anything there.

now save and load system.ini

This is trickier look for 386enh.....
write down everything you see here and post back and I will try to tell you what to do

Thank you gerry!
I'll never know now.
My in-laws had a computer teacher friend who came over and did a system restore from dos. So, they don't have the McAfee at all at this point. He put something else on there instead that's free or something.
Thanks for wanting to assist.
I appreciate it.
