Hi, just signed up a few minutes ago. I've been lurking this forum/website for awhile and now have question hope somebody can assist.

I have a few domain name's i'm using through dot.tk that i would like to keep active while trying to build traffic with and would like to build in a (for lack of a better word) little saftey net.

dot.tk offers domain names for free but if you don't get at least 25 hits through their service using said domain every 90 days it gets deactivated and they do whatever they do with it and was wondering if anybody might have a solution?

I was thinking some kind of bot or software that i could use to setup to throw a few hits to said domain (10 a month i dont need a flooder) to keep it active while putting together my little website.

Any help is greatly appreciated. -Oh and did i say hi, in case i didn't... sup

How about a free monitoring service that will 'hit' your site every 15 minutes or so?

Uptime (free)

Uptime periodically requests a page from your server. If the site is unreachable, Uptime sends you email. Uptime will continue checking your site. When it becomes reachable again, Uptime will send you one more message.

What's the period? Right now, the average user's server gets queried every 15 minutes.

1) Create a page on your site named "uptime.txt" that contains the single word "success" (without the quotes).

2) Go to the link above and enter the complete URL to your "uptime.txt" file.

3) Fill out the rest of the info on that same page.

That's it. The uptime server will now attempt to access your "uptime.txt" page every 15 minutes or so. If it can't reach it, it'll send you an email; and then another email when it comes back up. As long as it can reach your "uptime.txt" file, it'll leave you alone, (no email).

super simple even i can handle that but i dont think this method works with url masking and forwarding unless its being blocked by the host. unless i'm missing something (which wouldn't be difficult been up for a few days know working on a big project for mr. kawasaki) i uploaded my uptime.txt with only success in it to root at the hosting webserver where my index.html etc.. went to the addurl link fed it my info's and here's what it spit at me:

We tried fetching http://thundermax.net but it did not return the string "success" as required by Uptime.

If you put the "uptime.txt" file in the root directory, the URL should probably be

http://www.thundermax.net/uptime.txt

instead of

http://thundermax.net

(as shown in the above quote).


Like this:

http://www.spywaredr....com/uptime.txt

See how it shows nothing but the single word "success"? That's the string of characters the uptime server is looking for.


When I try to access http://www.thundermax.net/uptime.txt (or http://thundermax.net/uptime.txt) I automatically get redirected to your main page. (Apparently your server is setup so that when a requested page is not found it simply redirects the user back to your main page).

hmmm. i think it has to do with the fact that i'm using domain forwarding and cloaking through my registrar with the domain name thundermax.net. i'm able to get to the file fine punching in the url bypassing the domain name.

anyway, i'll try your suggestion above "thundermax.net/uptime.txt" however i'm wondering though if this would not just be futile since i have forwarding on via my registrar. -in the interim to your reply i came across serviceuptime.com's service after a search for a similar service to see if this method would work however after setting up a few services with them pointing to the .tk domain names that i want to utilize and keep alive for future use to point to the website that will be at the thundermax.net location i'm not seeing any traffic being recorded through the .tk traffic counter for the .tk domains i want to keep alive. serviceuptime.com's free service pings port 80 (as well as much more for the paid service) to check the status similar to the service you referred me to (i think).

oh well i'll try again, thanks for your help and suggestions and such.

ok so i went to dot.tk setup cyberwarrior.tk pointed it directly at the uptime.txt at the host and still get the problem adding url via http://uptime.openac.../uptime/add-url. as you can see if you plugin cyberwarrior.tk in your browser it points right to the uptime.txt sheesh
