I am using an iBook, Mac OS X, 10.2.8, 256 MB G3. I have 26.95 GB available space. Lately I am having a lot of slowness using Flickr on Safari and my iPhoto program. The rolling beachball takes over. Takes a long time to load pages. Sometimes it just goes on forever like it's in a loop. When I try to do a force quit, I am sometimes not successful and have to resort to hitting the power button to restart. I've also had several times lately where Safari quit unexpectedly.

Basically, my question is how can I increase the speed? Can I somehow compress the info to gain more space on the hard drive? I'm not overly computer literate, so I will need details if there is a way to solve my problem. Is 26.95 GB of space a lot or not? Also, I recently emptied the cache.

Thanks for any help.

Personally I would just buy a new mac, your computer Is to past Its peak, But If you want software to help lower your computers burden this application takes the shadows off the sides of the windows and helped me alot when I had an iMac G3.

MacUpdate :: Shadow Killer

Hello all,

I found this thread via a Google search for "mac ibook slow computer" (sans quotes), and what do you know, tonkitty's problem matches mine exactly. Same computer, same version of the OS. Web pages that used to load in seconds now take a full minute or so until all the graphics download. Even simple tasks like opening folders, or opening/quitting applications, are plagued with hiccups, delays, and the occasional spinning colorwheel. I know my iBook is past its prime (it's about 3 1/2 years old), but otherwise it still works fine. Is it possible that these computers just get tired? The shadow-killer application might help, but it doesn't explain why my laptop was running smoothly until recently. Thanks in advance for any advice.
