First, thank you very much for hosting this forum. This is my first post here but I've already learned a lot from scrolling through others.

My problem is StartPage-DU! I've spent night after night chatting with McAfee tech support to no avail. I have the McAfee DATS I need and have run VScan in Safe Mode many times. I've run Lavasoft's VX2 Cleaner plug-in, I've run Smart Security. I am simply out of ideas - and so - apparently, are the good people at McAfee. Heres my HJT log (v1.98.0) It must be hiding in there somewhere..!

I sincerely appreciate any input on this.

Try running about:buster again in safe mode. Also, be sure to press the update button and apply any updates before running.

While in safe mode also run Ad-aware. Download the latest version of Ad-Aware from here (if you already have Ad-Aware installed, make sure that it is the latest version and always go online and update it before you run it).

After installing AAW, and before running the program, you must FIRST update the reference file following these instuctions. (and you must always do this before you run the program at any later date).

Restarting in safe mode:
1. Start Windows, or if it is running, shut Windows down, and then turn off the computer.
2. Restart the computer. The computer begins processing a set of instructions known as the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS). What is displayed depends on the BIOS manufacturer. Some computers display a progress bar that refers to the word BIOS, while others may not display any indication that this process is happening.
3. As soon as the BIOS has finished loading, begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. Continue to do so until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears. 4. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, scroll to and select the Safe mode menu item, and then press Enter.

Now do the following:

1. Run about:buster

2. Run Ad-aware. Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Scanning Engine:
check: "Unload recognized processes during scanning."

Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Cleaning Engine:
Check: "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."

Press "Scan Now"

- Check option "Use Custom scanning options"
- Check option "Activate In-Depth Scan"
- Press "Select drives\folders to scan"
- Select the active partition which is usually C:

Now press "Next" to let Ad-aware scan your drives. It will find a number of spyware files and registry keys. Right-click in that pane and choose "select all"

Now press "Next" again. It will ask you whether you'd like to remove all checked items. Click OK.

Finally, close Ad-Aware, and reboot.

Run Hijack This again and post back a fresh log.

When finished, reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log. <_<

Hi again. Thank you for your post. Something strange happened when I clicked on the link below ("these instructions" - from the sentence below):

After installing AAW, and before running the program, you must FIRST update the reference file following these instuctions. (and you must always do this before you run the program at any later date).

It took me to this network solutions domain park. Is there a different URL you could post for me?

http://apps5.oingo.c...ww.lavahelp.com

Thank you!
