hp 5375 laptop w/win xp home stopped reading floppy disks. Floppy drivers show as not loading in error report. happened sometime after attempting to use a usb to serial port converter device. When attempting to format a floppy disk in drive A from command prompt, response is invalid media or track 0 is bad. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

No. This machine model comes with a built in 3 1/2 floppy.

An internal floppy drive shouldn't require any drivers.

1. Click Start -> Run, type sfc /scannow. It will check the integrity of your system files.

2. You could try installing the latest BIOS update to see if that helps:

3. You may require a new floppy drive.

I ran the scan program and it scanned and finished with no advisements. I have the updated bios but it loads from a floppy and the floppy drive won't read it. I will try starting with that disk again but as I recall it told me it was a non-system disk. I will try that again when I get off. Thanks.

You can download DrDOS from here: http://www.bootdisk.com/

That will make you BIOS disk bootable. However, if the BIOS isn't recognizing your floppy, it still won't work. <_< Have you tried resetting your BIOS to the default settings?
