Hey guys I'm using 2 computers a desktop computer and a wireless laptop. The
wireless laptop can connect to the internet while the desktop computer isn't
connected and it has "limited or no connectivity". The desktop computer
connects to the router which connects to the modem while the laptop is
directly connected to the router (wireless).

I tried doing:

1) netsh winsock reset
2) netsh int ip reset reset.log
3) netsh winsock reset catalog
4) winsockxpfix software
5) unplug the modem and the router
6) I have checked the services

But stil no luck.. :)(
The os of my desktop computer is winxp/sp3
When i try to ipconfig/renew it says that "unable to contact your dhcp server.Request timed out.

This is my ipconfig/all:

C:\Documents and Settings\ram>ipconfig /all

First thing I would do is turn off IPv6. Interesting that it would be on in an XP machine, wasnt enabled by default until Vista.

Do you have a firewall enabled? Can you ping the router from your desktop?

Can you ping the router from your desktop?

I doubt he can seeing as his IP address as APIPA kicked in.

Kenneth, Did you install IPv6 on your XP machine?
If so, can you (as diabillic suggested) try to turn it off?
Also, why exactly did you install IPv6 if you did?

EDIT:
What models are your modem and router?

Regards,
Olrik

IPv6 is not installed by Default.
If you know how to disable it, please do so and see if you can connect to your router.

Also, How did you remove the malware? Did you get help or did you do it yourself?

Olrik

If you wish to uninstall IPv6, which I would recommend you do, enter the following into a command prompt

netsh interface ipv6 uninstall

Reboot when complete. Also, please take a system restore snapshot before running the command.

Hello Kenneth,

First I would.like to know HOW you removed the. malware. If it was removes improperly you could still b suffering from remains (or maybe even still existent malware.)

I suspect that you still have some malware on your computer causing issues that we are not able to solve through means we can use here in the Tech Forums. I suggest you read the 'Start Here' topic found here. With these self-help tools you have a high chance of fixing the problems on your own. If you are still having problems after following Step 3 of the guide, continue with Step 4 and 5 and post in the Malware Forum. If you are unable to run any programs, Please create a topic stating what you have tried so far and that you are unable to run any programs. Also, Please do NOT post the logs in this thread.

If you are still having issues after the malware expert gives you a clean bill of health, Please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).

Please post a link to your malware thread in this thread. Do NOT post the logs in here though.

Regards,
Olrik
